In addition to the general diploma and as part of the Sheridan School-to-Career plan, students have the option of obtaining a Career Passport. The Career Passport is a document that enhances the diploma and lists the course work completed in a particular career emphasis or pathway. The Passport is designed to encourage students to pursue courses in a coherent sequence so that they may acquire workplace skills and competencies in a career field. The Career Passport indicates that the student has met or exceeded the standards established for a particular pathway. The Career Passport is intended to help students obtain better than entry-level employment upon graduation.

POST SECONDARY OPTIONS PROGRAM

The program, Post Secondary Enrollment Options, gives high school students the opportunity to take college courses while in high school and receive both high school and college credit. In most cases, the tuition for these classes can be paid by the school district.

The following are conditions of this program:

A.           The student must be a high school junior or senior.
B.            The student may take one or two courses per semester. The student is expected to pay the tuition and be reimbursed by the school district unless paying the tuition at the time of registration would create a financial hardship for the parents and/or the student. The student may enroll in more than two courses with permission from the district; the cost of tuition for courses above two will be paid by the student and/or parents.
C.           These courses must be taken during the regular school year. The district will not pay for classes taken during the summer.
D.           The courses must be at a higher academic level than those available at the high school. The high school may also permit students to take classes when the school feels the student may be in need of a different environment.
E.            The student must notify the Sheridan School District in writing 60 days before the start of the semester of the college he/she wants to attend. The student should submit the application to the high school counselor or principal. The student must specify the courses in which he/she plans to enroll.
F.            The courses shall count for credit toward the student’s graduation requirements. The school district will determine if the courses requested will meet those requirements.
G.           The school district is responsible for tuition costs only. All other applicable fees, including the cost of textbooks, are the responsibility of the student. Course fees are set by the college and vary by semester. The student and/or the parents must pay the fees in a timely manner or the college may drop the student from the course. This fee is payable at student check in.
H.           If the student voluntarily drops a course without consent of the principal of the high school, fails to attend regularly, or fails the course, the student and/or the parent or guardian shall reimburse the school district for the amount of tuition paid by the school district.
I.             The student is responsible to provide and pay for transportation to the college.
